Dit wordt voornamelijk be\u00efnvloed door factoren zoals de laadstatus (SOC) van de batterij en de omgevingstemperatuur. Over het algemeen geldt: hoe hoger de SOC en hoe hoger de opslagtemperatuur, hoe sneller de veroudering van de batterij. Onderzoek van de Technische Universiteit van M\u00fcnchen toont verder aan dat de verouderingssnelheid van lithium-ionbatterijen niet rechtstreeks evenredig is met de SOC. Wanneer de SOC tussen 30% en 60% ligt, is de verouderingssnelheid in principe gelijk, terwijl na een SOC van 60% de verouderingssnelheid snel toeneemt met een stijgende SOC. Dit komt doordat de evenwichtspotentiaal van de negatieve elektrode de essenti\u00eble factor is die de nevenreactie van de verdikking van de SEI-film be\u00efnvloedt. Hoe lager de evenwichtspotentiaal van de negatieve elektrode, hoe sneller de SEI-film groeit.
