De unieke microzwaartekrachtomgeving van de ruimte biedt een ideaal experimenteel veld om dit onderzoeksprobleem te overwinnen, waardoor een zuiverder onderzoek mogelijk is naar belangrijke processen zoals ionentransport, -insertie en -extractie binnen de batterij. De microzwaartekrachtomgeving brengt echter ook nieuwe uitdagingen met zich mee: het gedrag van de vloeistof in de batterij verschilt aanzienlijk van dat op aarde, wat mogelijk kan leiden tot verminderde batterijprestaties en verhoogde veiligheidsrisico&#039;s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"ember198\">Het project \u201cIn-situ elektrochemisch en optisch onderzoek van <strong>Lithium-ionbatterijen<\/strong> Het project &quot;For Space Applications&quot; heeft als doel de impactmechanismen van de microzwaartekrachtomgeving op belangrijke interne batterijprocessen direct te observeren en te analyseren, en zo sterk wetenschappelijk bewijs te leveren voor het verbeteren van de effici\u00ebntie van energiesystemen in ruimtevaartuigen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"ember199\">Tijdens het experiment voerden payloadspecialisten, op basis van wetenschappelijk inzicht, in-situ optische observatie-experimenten uit met lithium-ionbatterijen onder microzwaartekrachtomstandigheden. Ze maakten beelden van het volledige proces van lithiumdendrietengroei, stelden de elektrochemische experimenten nauwkeurig af, voerden de experimentele procedures correct uit, bewaakten de experimentele status in realtime en identificeerden en registreerden belangrijke wetenschappelijke verschijnselen.
