De stijgende vraag naar lithium-ionbatterijen verklaren<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

In deel 1 en 2 hebben we onderzocht evolutie van batterijtechnologie<\/a> evenals wat Batterijen kunnen wel en niet<\/a>. In dit deel behandelen we de vraag op de markt voor oplaadbare batterijen, met een belangrijke focus op het snelgroeiende lithium-ionsegment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Loodaccu's zijn al tientallen jaren de belangrijkste oplaadbare batterijen in ons leven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelfs in 2014 was ongeveer 64,51 biljoen dollar van alle inkomsten in de markt voor oplaadbare batterijen afkomstig van de verkoop van loodzuuraccu's, die voornamelijk werden gebruikt voor autostartmotoren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Waarom?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoewel loodzuuraccu's niet de meest energiedichte accu's zijn, hebben ze hun waarde bewezen en kunnen ze hoge piekstromen leveren. Bovendien zijn ze extreem goedkoop om te produceren, met productiekosten van ongeveer $150 per kWh energiecapaciteit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BETREED LITHIUM-ION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

De eerste lithium-ionbatterijen waren niet goedkoop. Sterker nog, de eerste commercieel geproduceerde batterijen halverwege de jaren negentig kostten doorgaans meer dan 1.400 per kWh energie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gelukkig zijn de kosten van lithium-ionbatterijen drastisch gedaald, waardoor ze in de jaren 2000 de voorkeursbatterij voor consumentenelektronica werden. En recent hebben wetenschappers nog meer vooruitgang geboekt, waardoor lithium-ionbatterijen voor veel meer toepassingen beschikbaar zijn gekomen, met name in elektrische voertuigen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2008 schatten analisten de kosten van lithium-ion-accupakketten op $600-$1200 per kWh, maar dit bedrag zou in de daaropvolgende vier jaar dalen tot $500-800 per kWh. Tesla beweert nu dat een accu voor een Tesla Model S $240 per kWh kost en dat de verwachte kosten voor een Model 3 $190 per kWh bedragen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bij een verbruik van $240 kWh kunnen lithium-ionbatterijen concurreren met $3\/gallon benzine. Bij $150 kunnen ze zelfs concurreren met $2 benzine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gigantische megafabrieken zoals Tesla's Gigafactory 1<\/a> Dit zal ook bijdragen aan schaalvoordelen in de lithium-ionproductie, waardoor ze nog betaalbaarder worden. Binnenkort zullen accupakketten ongeveer $100 per kWh kosten, wat ze in feite goedkoper zal maken dan alle voertuigen op benzine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VRAAG NAAR LITHIUM-IONBATTERIJEN<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

De grote vooruitgang in lithium-ionbatterijtechnologie heeft de markt volledig veranderd. Goedkopere en effici\u00ebntere lithium-ionbatterijen veroveren nu de batterijmarkt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2014 vertegenwoordigden lithium-ionbatterijen 33,41 biljoen dollar van de wereldwijde markt voor oplaadbare batterijen, ter waarde van 14,9 miljard dollar. Bernstein schat dat de markt voor oplaadbare batterijen in 2025 meer dan zal verdubbelen tot 112 miljard dollar, terwijl het marktaandeel van lithium-ionbatterijen eveneens meer dan zal verdubbelen tot 70,01 biljoen dollar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De belangrijkste drijfveer? De automobielsector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2010 was de automobielsector slechts een klein onderdeel van de verkoop van lithium-ionbatterijen. Vijf jaar later vertegenwoordigde de automobielsector meer dan 15 miljard dollar aan omzet in een sector met een totale waarde van bijna 116 miljard dollar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DE ELEKTRISCHE AUTO WORDT MAINSTREAM<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 2015 werden er in de VS bijna een half miljoen auto's verkocht met een elektrische aandrijving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Van deze verkopen waren 14% volledig elektrische voertuigen (BEV's):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • 71.000 elektrische voertuigen met batterij (14%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 43.000 plug-in hybrides (9%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 384.000 hybrides (77%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    = 498.000 elektrische voertuigen<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Maar als percentage van de totale autoverkoop in de VS maakten elektrische voertuigen nog steeds minder dan 11 TP3 TIB uit:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • 71.000 elektrische voertuigen met batterij (0,4%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 43.000 plug-in hybrides (0,3%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 384.000 hybrides (2,3%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 16.900.000 verkochte benzine\/diesel (97%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Naar verwachting zal dit echter in de nabije toekomst snel veranderen. Tegen 2040 zal ongeveer 351 TP3T van alle wereldwijde autoverkopen uit elektrische voertuigen bestaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Dit zal de wereldwijde verkoop van elektrische voertuigen op bijna 40 miljoen per jaar brengen, wat betekent dat er veel energie in batterijen opgeslagen moet worden. Bloomberg New Energy Finance verwacht dat elektrische voertuigen op dat moment jaarlijks meer dan 1.900 TWh van het elektriciteitsnet zullen afnemen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Hoeveel is 1900 TWh? Dat is genoeg om de hele Verenigde Staten 160 dagen van stroom te voorzien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Om aan de vraag naar voertuigen met lithium-ion-accu's te voldoen, zal een enorme hoeveelheid accupakketten geproduceerd moeten worden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
